About Us

A student-led initiative focused on libraries, learning, and intellectual freedom.

Banned Books Project is a student-led initiative created to increase awareness of challenged and banned books in San Mateo and the Bay Area through research, outreach, displays, and public education.

Why this project exists

The site was created to help libraries and readers recognize the importance of challenged books more visibly. Its goal is to support learning, discussion, and context while increasing recognition one library at a time.

Research approach

The project draws from research sources, public reporting, intellectual freedom materials, interviews with librarians, and presentations for libraries in order to frame the topic carefully and responsibly.
