Banned Books Week

When/How to Participate

Participation can be modest, reflective, and practical. The goal is to help libraries and readers engage challenged books in ways that are visible, educational, and welcoming.

When to participate

Use Banned Books Week itself as a featured moment, or adapt these ideas into library calendars, school-year reading programs, advisory periods, or community events whenever they fit best.

How to participate

  • promote the week with a library program, book talk, or curated shelf of challenged titles.
  • invite the project to present on challenged books, intellectual freedom, and how communities can respond thoughtfully.
  • pair one challenged title with research notes, reviews, or librarian commentary that gives visitors context for discussion.
